Activities Programming

People feel better physically and mentally and function at a more optimal level when they are interacting with others in pleasant, comfortable surroundings.  That is why we provide attractive areas for residents to gather and why we encourage visits by children and pets.  Our residents can enjoy watching the birds in the aviary and the fish in the aquariums or sit quietly and listen to the water flowing in the fountain. Residents are encouraged to help staff members care for the many plants in the facility.  Our staff of trained professionals provides daily activities designed to meet the recreational needs of every resident.  Among the many scheduled activities are:

  • Trips to local restaurants, movie theaters, sporting and community events
  • Exercise programs
  • Games and crafts
  • Learning opportunities
  • Family events and holiday programs

Our Resident/Family Councils meet regularly and we also sponsor family support groups and volunteer programs.

The activities team continually provides opportunities for our residents to remain active and involved during their stay.  Most activities are planned for group interaction, but for those residents who are unable to participate in group activities, we provide appropriate alternatives for that resident and activities team members are available.  Thefollowing are just some of the elements of the activities program:

  • Professionally planned and coordinated activities are available to all residents, regardless of their individual limitations.
  • Attractive lounges
  • Social, recreational and cultural activities
  • Physical exercise programs
  • Community outings
  • Special family events and programs
  • Pet therapy (dogs, birds, fish, etc.)
  • Residents’/Family councils
  • Family support groups
  • Volunteer programs
  • Intergenerational  programs

Dining

At St. Thomas More, our registered dietitians ensure that meals are appropriate for each individual.  These experienced dietitians continually assess needs, plan and monitor our residents’ health status to ensure that they remain nutritionally stable.   Buffet style dining is available for those who are more independent; this affords residents a greater variety of choices at each meal.  Our recently remodeled main dinning room can seat 80 and offers an expansive view of the grounds and common areas of the community.
